NORTH YORKSHIRE EXCEL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

North Yorkshire Netball Academies

This past year has been very busy for a very new NYMB member, Julie Halford, who took on the task of increasing the number of North Yorkshire Satellite Academies as well as forming a County Academy. Within five months and through many hours of work Julie managed to increase the number of academies from just two Satellite Academies to three Satellites and a County Academy. This meant that instead of being able to accommodate 40 talented players, we can accommodate 80 players. Unfortunately, due to work commitments, Julie has had to relinquish her post as Head of Talent for North Yorkshire and we wish her all the best in her work environment and a big thank you.

The County Academy will be held in York as well as one Satellite Academy. The other Satellite Academies are in Harrogate and Thirsk. The athletes will be coached by UKCC Level 2 coaches and an Assistant Coach; Ruth Walker, who is working towards her UKCC Level 3, will head the County Academy; Ian McAra will head the York Academy; Charlotte Smith, the Harrogate Academy and Danielle Collings, the Thirsk Academy.

North Yorkshire Screening Weekend.

The weekend of the 26th/27th September welcomed over 100 talented players from schools and Clubs in North Yorkshire, to a screening weekend for the North Yorkshire Academies.

On Saturday we held the session for Year 7’s & 8’s and out of 41 attendees 22 were successful in gaining a place in one of the three North Yorkshire Satellite Academies, three were successful in gaining a place in the North Yorkshire County Academy as well as being invited to attend Regional Screening on 4th October.

The Sunday Session was attended by 59 Year 9’s, 10’s & 11’s with 26 girls accepted for Satellite Academy, 15 Girls accepted for County Academy, 10 of which were asked to attend Regional Screening.

Well done all!
