Do you want to become an umpire, or just want to know more about it first?

Irrespective of your age, ability, or experience of playing netball, if you have a passion for the game and can successfully complete England Netball's Into Officiating Award Course, you can start your journey to becoming a netball umpire.

The course is delivered as two online sessions, with further practical training delivered at county level, followed by assessment on a match.

If you are continuing your journey on the officiating pathway, your first step is to complete the appropriate training course by signing up via the England Netball website.

The route through the awards

England Netball offer a training and development pathway for umpires starting with the Into Officiating award. We provide the county-level practical training, mentoring and assessment along the way.

  1. Step 1

    Into Officiating Award

    Two online sessions, practical training at county level, then assessment on a match.

  2. Step 2

    C Award

    County-organised assessment.

  3. Step 3

    B Award

    Mentoring available in the county.

  4. Step 4

    A Award

    Mentoring available in the county.

As well as organising officiating assessments at Into and C Award levels, our officiating group provides advice and guidance on many aspects of officiating in North Yorkshire.

Opportunities

Where can I umpire?

There are a wide range of umpiring opportunities in Yorkshire.

  • League matches

    Adult leagues on midweek evenings and Sunday mornings, and the Junior League on Sunday afternoons.

  • National Schools Competition

    County and regional rounds in November and February.

  • Performance play days

    Inter-county play day matches throughout the season.

  • Training sessions

    Weeknights for various clubs and for the county performance programme.

  • NSL, NPL and PDP pathways

    At Leeds Rhinos.

  • Regional League

    Higher-level matches in the Regional League.
